Geography. The Republic of Belarus is a country in the center of Europe, on its territory Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland would fit together. Minsk is the capital of the Republic and the largest cities are Grodno, Brest, Mogilev, Vitebsk, Gomel — have been frequently mentioned in the world media in recent months. There are no high mountains and the sea in the country, but legends are made about forests, lakes and ancient cities. Braslav lakes, Naroch, Belovezhskaya Pushcha are natural pearls that Belarusians tremblingly guard, as well as less famous native places loved in childhood.
The population of Belarus is 9.5 million people, another 1.5 million Belarusians live abroad, and all of them are incredible. Catholics, Orthodox, Uniates, and Jews live peacefully in the country, respecting the faith of others, and often celebrating the holidays of different confessions. The country speaks Russian and, more and more often, the Belarusian language, which has become a symbol of national revival. Belarusians are a very educated nation, there is a real cult of higher education here, and there are many jokes about tolerance and hard work.
The history of Belarus is more than a thousand years old, and this fact surprises even our neighbors. The Principality of Polotsk, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Western provinces of the Russian Empire, the Belarusian People’s Republic and Soviet Belarus — on each of these pages there are many reasons for both pride and regret.
Tourism in Belarus expects rapid development in the future, but now the country can please with walks in old cities, visiting medieval castles and temples, relaxing on beautiful lakes, living on eco-farms, and opportunities for holding high-level business events. And the Belarusian cuisine will not leave anyone indifferent and will make you want to return after hearing the word “draniki”.
